This wonderful episode continues Sex in the Pews’ celebration of sexuality generally and Pride Month specifically. It commences with Owen telling of his struggles avoiding sexual contact and pornography in college when he was a Christian. Glenn makes the case that the Bible is NOT the word of God and discusses its inconsistencies and the war that took place between the apostles. Owen rehearses the experience earlier in the day he had with some positive meditation from the “good book” and later with a professional voice lesson he took.
Then the Boys welcome educator and author Joplin James Patras in the Pews. Glenn and Joplin reminisce about their days together at summer camp, Joplin shares about how he considered going into the priesthood to avoid his own sexuality, his journey to accepting that he was gay and how it went when he came out to Glenn while the Coach was still steeped in religion. They relate their respective molestation camp stories and how they both hold no bitterness to their abusers and we learn of Joplin’s “Tales from Mushroom Manor” books. This lovefest must be heard and certainly ain’t boring!
